While many expect donations to be requested for a breast cancer charity, family, Edwards, rather than asking the public to support a fund established in honor of his son Edwards.

Instead of flowers, donations may be made to the Wade Edwards Foundation, which benefits Wade Edwards Learning Lab at www.wade.org.

The Fund was launched in 1996 in honor of Wade, a 16-year-old son Edwards, who was killed in a car accident.

Funds allocated to the fund to support Wade Edwards Learning Lab Raleigh, North Carolina lab produces resources for teenagers, including free access to a computer after school.
