Malaysia Flood 2011 Update:-Killed two, nearly 30,000 displaced people in Malaysian floods
Kuala Lumpur – Two people died and nearly 30,000 have been forced to leave their homes Monday after heavy rains closed roads and caused rivers to overflow southern state of Johor, Malaysia.
The Segamat town was cut off by floods and at least two other nearby towns were flooded, said the state Chief Minister Abdul Ghani Othman.
Three rivers in the state had their banks, while five others were admitted to a dangerous level, irrigation department said.
Abdul Ghani was quoted by the Star newspaper flooding claimed two lives and a total of 28,932 people had sought refuge to 200 centers statewide.
Rail traffic in the state were canceled until the water level returns to normal, officials said.
The meteorological office forecast rain through Tuesday.
