Beware of fake Facebook ‘dislike’ Button
August 17th, 2010 | Add a Comment
Computer security firm Sophos warns that scammers are fooling Facebook users with a fake “Dislike” button that slips malicious code onto machines. ” Keep in mind there is no “Dislike” version of the “Like” icon that Facebook users use to endorse online comments, stories, pictures or other content shared with friends”.
Hackers are enticing Facebook users to install an application pitched as a “Dislike” button that jokingly notifies all contacts “now I can dislike all of your dumb posts.”
Once this application granted permission to access a Facebook user’s profile, it pumps out spam from the account and spreads itself by inviting the person’s friends to get the button, as Sophos said.
