Asian Games 2010 Medal Tally :-The 16th Asian Games has begin at the Guangdong Aoti Sports Centre, Huangcun, Guangzhou, with a grand opening ceremony at the pearl rive bank.
This is the second time China hosts the Asian Games, after Beijing in 1990. This will be the largest event in history of the Games with a total of 476 events in 42 sports will be contested by athletes. Guangzhou won the bid to host the games on July 1, 2004, this came after the withdrawal of several cities like Amman, Kuala Lumpur and Seoul. The games will also be co-hosted by three neighbouring cities Dongguan, Foshan and Shanwei.
There will be 47 Gold medals at stake for Athletics and 44 for shooting, making it two of the biggest contributors to the count. Some of the other important sports which will contribute to the medals count greatly will be the Aquatics event which will see teams and individuals win 52 gold medals.
For the first time in the Asian Games, cricket will be introduced, and there will be two gold medals at stake. There will also be four other sports making their debut; dragon boat, weiqi, dancesport, and roller sport.
China won the first Gold medal of 16th Asian Games. Yuan Xiaochao of China retained its Gold medal in wushu.
Indian shooters Gagan Narang, Sanjeev Rajput and Abhinav Bindra brought silver medal for India in 10m Air Rifle Men’s team event.
